The truest constant in this world is change. No entity, place, or state of mind is immune to its influence. For the mutants, the living breathing change in humanity itself, evolving and adapting to change is of the utmost necessity, regardless of their affiliation or personal beliefs.

It has been fourteen years since the battle on Alcatraz and in that time not only the X-Men but all mutants have come to find themselves faced with new powerful threats; threats that have torn apart families, ravaged alliances, safe havens, ways of life all through the forced implementation of change.

An organization with government backing, the Mutant Response Division continues to grow and become a household name as awareness of their group stems from very sudden encounters. Multiple disappearances have been linked to the MRD. Even more alarming are the lengths that the MRD will go to in retaliation if confronted by a traceable mutant faction.

Unfortunately whether the mutants and humans are ready for it or not, the horizon is thickening with a political storm and big names with big money are coming out of seemingly nowhere intent on funding a campaign that could potentially incarcerate mutants on a subjective basis. A modified Mutant Registration Act is sweeping the nation, being proposed and passing in even some of the most liberal states. This Act calls all mutants to trial to not only register but also demonstrate their powers before a jury. If deemed too dangerous for life in human society, they will be subject to termination of powers via forceful injection of the cure, or be incarcerated in one of eight brand new facilities recently erected to detain them. This law has not yet passed nationally but already riots and anti-MRA groups have begun an uprising in some of the western states, drawing even further negative attention to all mutants through organized terrorism.
