The Brotherhood of Mutants is a group dedicated to the cause of mutant superiority over humans. Throughout its various incarnations, the Brotherhood's agenda gravitated towards either subjugating the human race to the will of mutants or eradicating humanity altogether. Traditionally, the X-Men tend to stand in the way of their goals.

The Brotherhood was initially founded by Magneto after he'd left the Xavier Institute, believing that humans were inferior and that seeking harmony with them was pointless. The group stands for mutant superiority. They strike down anti-mutant groups (such as the MRD), politicians, authorities, and anyone else that poses a threat to their mission. Some view them as terrorists, others agree with their goals, but most know best to stay out of their way. The Brotherhood was kept together primarily by two people: the leader, and the leader's second-in-command. After recent events, there is only one leader of the Brotherhood now. The leader, along with assistance, plans all efforts and strategies that work toward the desire for mutant preservation and superiority over humans. If one has potential in furthering the group's agenda, he or she would likely meet with the leader first.
